Andre 3000 Makes A Case for Overalls at Coachella

2014 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival - Day 1 Something happens to the way I feel about a certain style at the same time every Coachella season. Several years ago it was a preppy Celine top from the womenswear 2011 collection I felt numb about. I later completely changed my opinion of after seeing Kayne perform in it. I guess he added an edge to it I never knew I wanted. This year it’s a less specific item – overalls. Striped overalls, actually. Maybe a little specific.

Andre 3000 took his unique swagger to Coachella this weekend. In my opinion, the rapper has figured out how to make overalls look cool. Let’s discuss. The overall, a statement piece for the working guy/ gal at the turn of the Twentieth Century, and a staple Saturday brunch look for many modern day East Village folk. How do I feel about the one-piece denim look – the same way I felt about Lady Gaga’s Artpop album – torn. On one hand, I think it’s an impossible feet to wear overalls without losing any sense of definition our bodies have. However, there’s something about the protective vibe of the look I dig.

I’m totally inspired by the Andre wore his set this past weekend. The singer hit the stage wearing the railroad striped one-piece while performing ncluding “B.O.B.”, “Rosa Parks” and “Roses.” He styled the vintage workman overalls a tie-dyed T-shirt and a sweatshirt from his son’s high school. Too cute. Whether or not I’ll get to the point where I’m buying overalls is still up for discussion. For now, I’m just saying I am enjoying the idea of these retro striped overalls.
