Androgynous Pink Angels At Bottega Veneta Resort 2016

These angels don’t need wings.

Even though London, Milan and the penultimate Paris men's shows often provide more prolific intel into the immediate future of men's fashion, one thing you can always expect from the resort shows is a birds eye view of what's to come next year and a discourse in color. It lays the groundwork that will foretell the nuances of future men's  seasons in a fuzzy and ethereal way, if you will.

I would easily wear seventy five percent of the Bottega Veneta Resort 2016 collection. It encompasses everything I am currently lusting over – androgyny, a harsh silhouette, risky color combinations, a William de Kooning feel and pink fur. There is a lot us boys can learn from this collection.

Now, because it’s early in the morning I’ll try to spare you a full history lesson — but you’ve heard of William de Kooning and his controversial “Women” paintings?

When the likes of Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline were moving away from representational imagery toward pure abstraction, de Kooning maintained a commitment to the figurative tradition.

Both visionaries reveal colors divinity and cast a look that always glimmers no matter just how balm overcast or darkening days lie ahead.

Like de Kooning, Tomas Maier developed a signature style that fused vivid color and aggressive silhouettes while deconstructing images of the female form. Take for instance the patchwork-pleated tops and dresses here, with their shards of black fabric or the leather bombers and track jackets constructed of multicolor swatches of suede. Or linear takes on masculine garb like high-end activewear fabric used in blouses.

de Kooning's eye for color pairing is also seen throughout the Bottega Veneta Resort 2016 lineup. Take a minute and look at the way a delicate pale pink knit is paired with am earthy burn umber suede jacket, or how a fleshy pink is worn with fire-engne red trousers. Or the pairing of teal with lime yellow and a deep tan. It seems timeless yet modern and succulent. These are color combinations are ripe for us boys to bite into this summer.
