How To: Grow Your Hair Out and Be Okay With It

I’m not exactly sure, but let’s figure it out together.

GDJR! copy copyIt’s cold out and a great to to grow your hair out.  I’m growing mine out again, and not just because Robert Patterson’s new haircut terrified me to back to the barber.

You, the guy with the long Jared Leto locks that was sitting on the windowsill of Café on Jane St. Me, the silly, naive guy who just walked out of the barber shop a few blocks way having left my 7 month hair growth on the floor behind because I got bored of growing it out. I couldn’t help but look back at you as your hair got caught in a perfect Beyonce breeze, my emotions all glassy and confused, but even though I loved my redefined wedge, I couldn’t help but want to start the growth process all over again.

Of course I was tempted to toss the styling wax I just picked up and got out and get Biotin by the barrel, but I’m leaving it up to fate: if I see another guy with killer long hair, I’ll take a chance and go at it again. Five minutes later I’m in line a DUANEreade with 2 5,000 mcg bottles of Biotin in hand.

This is the vicious cycle I find myself to be forever trapped in as a guy who wants long air but can’t not care enough to get there.

I’ve tried to grow my hair 5 times over the course of my life. Spoiler alert, I have wretchedly failed each time, although I did come close on two occasions. Waiting for your hair to be the exact length you want is almost as painful as waiting in line for the doors to open at the first morning of the Alexander Wang and H&M collection sale – it takes forever and just when you think you made it you realize you the line continues inside and you are left disappointed with the progress you made.

I recently wrote a post about hairstyles to try this fall. I have been sporting the redefined wedge and been quite happy about this decision until redeveloping my interest in long locks.  Another hairstyle I featured in that list was the long fop, best rocked by Neo-punk band mates of The Garden -Wyatt Shears & Fletcher Shears.

Ok, so I know I don’t have strong credibility when it comes to this and you may not take me seriously, but I am growing out my hair once again, and this time all the way. Stay with me for updates on my progress, how to style your hair at those awkward lengths and just how I’m getting through this tough and straggly time.
