That Unexpected Holiday Look You’ve Been Looking For

 

 

Silk shirts are like a tomato in that they trick their consumers into thinking they’re one thing, a vegetable when they’re really a fruit, a practical shirt decision when they’re anything but. Thinking how to wear such a look can be as taxing as taxing as trying not to finish that spicy flaxseed chip from Trader Joes. But when done correctly is is a great way to wear the pajama trend without looking like you’re half hungover and still asleep.

Sure, girls will amble about in romantic silk shirts. Well fellas, here are two ways to wear the look via yours truly and Jared Leto.

While in Paris last month I picked up this imperial blue silk shirt by Alexis Mabille. It had everything I was looking for in a silk shirt: a bold color, great cut, three-quarter inch sleeves and sixty percent discounted. While at the shop I also noticed these great David Bowie like printed trousers and felt like the shirt needed a friend to leave the shop with.

Back at the hotel I realized this was a great way to pull off the pajama trend without looking like you just stepped out of bed: wear a silk shirt with a pair of bold, patterned trousers.  I didn’t wear shoes in the below images (for dramatic affect of course) but when I took this look to the streets I paired it with white Stan Smiths to ad a bit of unexpected edge.

Ok, now for Leto’s take on the silk shirt.

Saint Laurent is always a go to for Jared Leto. However, lately Leto has been embracing the 70s inspired fashions of Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele. The Suicide Squad star rocked a red crepe silk shirt at the LACMA 2015 Art+Film Gala. Like myself, he also didn’t pair the look down and styled it with a tailored blazer featuring white piping and a glittering tiger broach. This is one way you can get away with wearing a silk shirt to the office.
