Why We Love Sweater Weather

Five words: Chunky knits and Doug Funny.

The sensation brought on by the onset of sweater weather is much like waking up in the middle of the night to pee, in that you’re not quite sure how to address it, although you know once you embrace what needs to be done, you are going to feel awesome.

That ill-prepared and unexpected moment in the wee hours of the night is a looming threat after a successful happy hour bender. Being the lazy man that I am, I usually try to ignore the discomfort for several minutes and do my best to fight against the issue. Although, we all know how great it feels once you are standing in front of (or sitting on) the toilet and hear that wonderful fountain like tinkle.

That metaphor has gone on for at least four sentences too long so let’s talk about sweater weather.

Sweater weather is one of the very few things that make up for summer being over. But why do we as human beings get so amped for sweater weather? What is it about putting on a chunky knit that is so titillating? Is it the fact that it feels cozy and warm being clad in an article of clothing that is simultaneously hiding lasts night’s bad pizza decision? Or does it go deeper then that? Is sweater weather an escape and nostalgic magic that brigs us back to a simpler time when our moms were our stylist, driver and chef and all we had to do was get out of bed in the morning and watch an episode of Doug before going to school? Im not sure but anything that gets me whistling the tune of Doug in my head is a good thing.
