When the warm weather arrives, so do the anxieties about showing your belly. Hence the many articles that promise fat-burning potions, shakes that build muscle overnight, and pills that will turn you into Zac Effron.

I am here to tell you that achieving a six-pack does take some time. That’s the bad news. Now for the good. It is possible. Join me on an emotional journey of life as we break this goal down together. If I (one of the laziest and hungriest people I know) can do it, so can you. So here are my six steps on how to get a six-pack fast.

  1. Eat

*Gasp* One of the biggest mistakes people make while trying to get a six-pack is not eating enough. I know this sounds crazy but you need to be eating a large amount of protein to achieve the washboard effect. I’m not saying go grab a burger. You need to eat clean protein like Greek yoghurt, egg whites, oatmeal and lean protein shakes.  Protein will help you build lean muscle as well as burn body fat. Also you really should turn away from carbs and sugar during this process. Believe it our not diet is responsible for about 70% of your results.

  1. Plank

When done correctly, performing difficult ‘planking’ exercises like this with minimal rest will produce a cardio burn while building metabolically active lean muscle. You can throw in a variety of ‘different’ ab exercises such as reverse crunches, side plank, mountain climber, and even the pushup.

  1. Walk

Pass on the Uber ride and save yourself money while getting the abs you’ve always wanted. Walking is so beneficial for us humans. It does something that the elliptical doesn’t to our muscles.

  1. Snooze

You need sleep to reveal your six-pack. Did you know that a lack of shut-eye may disrupt the hormones that control your ability to burn fat. The University of Chicago scientists recently found that just three nights of poor sleep may cause your muscle cells to become resistant to the hormone insulin. Over time, this leads to fat storage around your belly. So turn off Netflix and stop Insta-stoking and get some more shut-eye.

  1. Alternate

A guy’s smartest approach to a six-pack is to train his entire body every other day. Did you know that a single total-body weight-training session can boost your metabolism for up to 2 days? A fast metabolism is essential for defined abs. So you shouldn’t neglect a single inch of your body.

  1. Think

Any good workout should be challenging, regardless of your fitness level. And one sure fire way to make it more challenging is to mentally focus on the area you are working out. This really applies to any muscle but is key for getting chiseled abs. If you need help focusing keep one had on your abs to help your mind hone in on that area.
