Lana Del Rey released a moody, yet surprisingly breezy new track from her forthcoming album ‘Ultraviolence’, and I’m obsessed.

The song gains it’s strength with a reggae drum filled rhythm as she sings about West Coast living. “If you’re not drinking, then you’re not playing,” the lyrics go. Have truer words ever been spoken? Lana’s haunted melodies unfold with a murky yet graceful honesty in her new beat, projecting an image of what we can expect from menswear this summer season.

The answer can be found in a bohemian, hippy dude with a rock edge, or as I’m calling him, a rock-n-roll groupie. Bold Hawaiian hibiscus and micro flowers hit the runways, as hard as florals can, during men’s 2014 fashion weeks. Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Gucci, Kenzo and Jill Sander all showed off fierce flowers. This print is more then just decoration come this summer. It will breathe a new life into our menswear staples.

Back to Lana’s track, the singer goes on to sing about West Coast existence: “Down on the west coast, they love their movies // Their golden cars and rock-n-roll groupies.” With bold tropical floral trends in mind, and listening to this track on repeat this morning, I got to thinking about male groupies. When I hear groupie I immediately think Bianca Jagger, Pamela Des Barres and Cynthia Albritton. These wonderful women that created strong fashion trends around their obsession with musicians. Now in the Twenty-first Century, the term groupie has become synonymous with style and edge. I think for summer 2014 it’s the season for guys to take on this idea.

So this summer, I’m predicting a slew of boy groupies who know how to manipulate floral patterns with a dark rock edge. Although if you’re still at square one, take a second, listen to “West Coast”, and start planning your summer look.
