Hotel Like Jagger, a periodic nod to hotel typologies both obscure and ubiquitous.

In the past visitors to the island of Manhattan would never dare dream of staying anywhere but directly in the bustling city itself. However things have changed over the past several years. Brooklyn has become an international brand with Williamsburg emerging a main destination for international travelers. It is a buffet for travelers starving for the perfect ultra creative boutique hotel.

On my past trip to LA I got to thinking about this shift and if there was something similar emerging out west. I found such a place in Los Feliz.

Los Feliz is that epicenter of Los Angeles’s east-side hipster scene. Sitting in in this imaginative city, above a popular wine bar of the same name, is the five-room Hotel Covell.

Each one of the five rooms is designed after a chapter from a fictional bygone writer named George Covell’s life, from a young boy in Oklahoma to an accomplished Author in New York City. But you don’t need to know much about Mr. Covell to appreciate the stunning design of the property. I stayed in Chapter 1, designed after Oklahoma City in the 1920’s and jammed to the Oklahoma album as I sang along to every song and sipped delicious red wine from the restaurant downstairs.
